Assistant/Associate Professor in Multimedia Search and/or Recommender Systems

The Multimedia Computing Group of the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, invites applicants for a position of Assistant/Associate Professor in the domain of multimedia search and/or recommender systems. We are looking for an exceptional individual who has the potential to become an outstanding research and education leader.

The Multimedia Computing Group
The Multimedia Computing Group within the Department of Intelligent Systems, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science, develops methods and algorithms that enable effective, efficient and intuitive access to large collections of heterogeneous, unstructured multimedia (multimodal, multisensory) data in real-world contexts. The developed solutions are oriented towards the needs of users and are realised using both the search and recommendation paradigms. The group, under the leadership of Prof. Alan Hanjalic, combines expertise in multimedia information retrieval, recommender systems, multimedia signal analysis and processing, (social) network analysis, and quality of experience.

Job description
The successful candidate will strengthen the Multimedia Computing (MMC) Group’s expertise in the design, development and implementation of innovative multimedia search/recommendation methods and algorithms, with consideration of user aspects such as personalisation, explanation and utility. Examples of research topics of interest are: dealing with multifaceted data (and data representations) and implicit user feedback; incorporating context, user interests and intents in the development of search and recommendation algorithms, and securing trust in and explainability of the search and recommendation results. The successful candidate will also contribute to teaching at the BSc and MSc levels, supervision of PhD students, research funding acquisition, technology transfer, and faculty management tasks.

Requirements
The candidate has a PhD in computer science or a related discipline, a proven track record of scientific excellence in the field(s) of multimedia search and/or recommender systems, excellent communication skills and the ambition to strengthen and expand the research and teaching of the MMC Group. He/she must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and have the ambition to build partnerships with leading academic and societal institutions and industries worldwide. Teaching experience at the university level is preferred. Teaching certificates are considered to be an advantage.
